What is a pip?
The smallest standardized price move in a currency pair — 0.0001 for most pairs (EUR/USD), 0.01 for JPY pairs and metals (XAU/USD). Traders express P/L and stops in pips.
How is pip value calculated?
Pip value (quote currency) = pip size x units. 1 standard lot EUR/USD = 0.0001 x 100,000 = $10/pip. Multiply by the quote->account rate to convert to your account currency.
Why JPY pip = 0.01?
JPY pairs are quoted to 2 decimals — a 0.0001 move is too tiny. Convention is 0.01 per pip when JPY is the quote currency and also for XAU/USD and XAG/USD.
